Today’s the Deadline for Registering for Tsunami Classic
Today’s the registration deadline for the Tsunami Classic swim meet, which will take place on Saturday, January 16 at Attleboro High School.

This is a last-chance meet for swimmers looking to qualify for Y Districts, which start at the end of the month. We will only be taking swimmers who need to attend a third YMCA meet to qualify to compete at Districts, or swimmers who are very close to achieving their District cuts.

Parents, please DO NOT sign up your swimmers for this meet if they have swum in three YMCA meets and already have their cut times. If you aren’t sure if you should sign your swimmer up, email Coach Erin (erincammann@hotmail.com) and she will help you decide.

The schedule for the meet on Saturday, January 16, is as follows:

12 and under swimmers: noon warm-up; 12:45 p.m. start
13 and older swimmers: 4 p.m. warm-up, 4:45 p.m. start

To register for the meet, click the following link: http://www.anahurricanes.org/EvSignup.jsp?event_id=62970&team=neahst. Once you have signed in, you will be brought to a page on our team website that will allow you to commit or not commit your child to the meet. If you have more than one child swimming you will see them listed on this page.

Here are the steps if you ARE NOT GOING:
1. Click on the Member Names [they default to Not Committed].
2. Then click on the Signup Record pull-down and elect either Yes or No.
3. If No, just click on the [Save Changes] button to save the changes.
If you have more than one child, repeat the same task as listed above.

Here are the steps if you ARE GOING:
1. Click on the Signup Record pull-down and select Yes.
2. Once yes is selected, you will see the events your child MAY be eligible to swim. You will also see the best times inserted into the Entry Time field and highlighted in yellow.
3. Check the Checkbox to the left of the name for those events you would like to swim. Please take careful notice of the time standards that must be met in the right-side columns.
4. Once you have finished, click on the Submit Button in the lower right. Repeat the process for additional swimmers.

You will notice that Coach Approval column will indicate Pending after you submit. Please pay careful attention to:

Maximum Event Entry Limitations IF PRESENT. Click on the >>View if present. Add any notes that you want the Coach or Administrator to see.

Your coach or team administrator will review your declaration and APPROVE or REJECT your request, and once they submit the final choices, you will be able to review by signing in and clicking on the Attend This Event button for any events listed on our team website. Look at the Coach Approval column for the events that you have been confirmed to swim.

Big Doings at the Andover/North Andover YMCA
Plans are under way to substantially expand the Andover/North Andover YMCA facility. We’d like to tell you more at a special presentation for all ANA Hurricanes parents on Wednesday, January 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. (presentation at 7 p.m.) at the Andover Town House on Main Street in downtown Andover.

This is an “opportunity not to be missed” for our swim team families to see the size and scope of what we are planning to do at our YMCA. We are requesting at least one member of each family attend for some light snacks, beverages and a presentation that will indeed cause waves of excitement throughout our community. You’ll be hearing about the planned expansion from Steve Ives, the president/CEO of the Merrimack YMCA, and from Alice Coogan, director of advancement for the Y.

Please use the “Job Signup” button to R.S.V.P for the event on the team’s website. We’re not asking you to perform any “job” at the event; simply join us for refreshments and exciting information about our future plans.

YMCA Districts Begin January 30
The 2010 YMCA Eastern Massachusetts District Championships are approaching! Any swimmer who has achieved a qualifying time by January 17 and has participated in at least three days of YMCA meets can participate.

In order to help you determine if your swimmer has qualifying times, or how close they are to achieving qualifying times, we have temporarily placed all active swimmers into this meet. Go to the team website: http://www.anahurricanes.org. Find the district meet under “Meets and Events,” and click on your swimmer’s name. You will be taken to a page that has a list of events for your child’s age group.

Your swimmer’s personal times will be in one of the left-hand columns, and the District qualifying times will be in the far right-hand column. If your swimmer has a cut, his/her personal time will be listed in black. If they don’t have a cut, the time will be listed in red.

Please note: swimmers who don’t have qualifying times or who haven’t swam in three YMCA meets are currently on this list. This doesn’t mean they can swim in the meet. Your swimmer will need to have at least three Y meets and have a qualifying time in order to swim.

If you know that your swimmer CANNOT attend their assigned session, please let us know by switching them out of the list of committed athletes, or by emailing Coach Erin at erincammann@hotmail.com.
